Abandoned and Alone: Two Little Girls Find Safety
Two little sisters—just seven and nine years old—were abandoned in an empty building. Their mother and her partner walked away, leaving them with no food, no water, and no promise to return. For days, the girls waited, alone in the silent emptiness, before venturing out in search of help.
When law enforcement became involved, they were placed in foster care. Safe at last, they were referred to A Child’s Light by a caring judge who saw the deep wounds they carried—abandonment, neglect, and the unspeakable trauma of sexual abuse.
Their foster family, full of love and hope, stepped up to adopt them, but there was a catch: because their trauma happened out of state, the family received no financial support for the care these girls need. Without intervention, their path to healing would be closed.
The sisters, however, have a light—a love for animals. Their mother once worked at a farm, and being around animals brought them comfort in a world that had been anything but kind. A Child’s Light is stepping in to fund equine therapy for these girls, helping them connect, trust, and heal through the gentle bond of horses.
While this is just the beginning of their journey, early therapy can help them process their pain and lay a foundation for hope. Right now, they are safe, loved, and surrounded by a family that refuses to give up on them. And thanks to equine therapy, they are one step closer to reclaiming their childhood.
